born and raised in the inner city of Chicago. He grew up on the drug -infested and gang-dominated streets of Humboldt Park. Surviving the atmosphere to continue in school was a challenge. At the young age of 12, he began using and dealing drugs. At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy looking for a way out, only to find that drugs were everywhere. Carlos had a hard time adjusting to the disciplined life, and he continued to be drawn to the night life. Soon drugs and the party lifestyle took his focus off his future. After leaving the military, and in a moment of despair, he realized he needed a change. He enrolled in school and graduated at the top of his class from E.C.P.I. in Computer Technology. His successful computer career led him to work for Fortune 500 companies such as IBM and Pitney Bowes. Drugs and alcohol were just as prominent in “Corporate America” and he continued to use and deal drugs. It seemed like Carlos had everything the world could offer: a great job, money, cars and women, yet he still found himself living with a great void in his life.
His mother was visiting Richmond on vacation from Chicago and insisted they go to church. She had read the testimony “Son Of Evil Streets”, a story about a young man named Victor Torres whose life had been drastically changed by God. They visited New Life Outreach International Church, pastored by Victor Torres and Nicky Cruz, an ex-gang member, was the guest speaker. He gave his life to Jesus shortly thereafter and his life was dramatically transformed.
Since his radical conversion, Carlos has served at New Life Outreach International Church in just about every capacity…from the Worship and Media Ministry to teaching and leading the Evangelism Team. Pastor Carlos’s consistent commitment and leadership has been a blessing to the body of Christ. For over 24 years he has dedicated his life to reaching the lost and making disciples.
